Rio de Janeiro is not only known for its amazing landscapes, beaches and nature, but also for being one of Brazil’s most visited cities from people all over the world. The Rio Full Day City Bike Tour was designed to take you through the most beautiful parts of Rio. It is a balance of beach cruising, cycling the lagoa with a view of the Christ the Redeemer and continuing the tour up along the coast through South America’s largest leisure space, Flamengo Park, until arriving to the city’s historical center and ending in the colorful neighborhood of Lapa.
Starting at 9am, we begin biking from our conveniently located shop in Copacabana. We cycle the beaches of Copacabana and Ipanema letting you get accustomed to the beauty that the day has in store. Ipanema beach, where much of the Carioca culture, music and way of life began, is the picturesque beach of Rio de Janeiro, seen in many postcards. We then pedal our way to the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon which provides us with a view of the famous Christ the Redeemer. Cycling through several neighborhoods to give us a perspective of Carioca daily life, we make our way back to the coast along the Guanabara Bay at the beach of Botafogo, which provides us with amazing panoramic views of the city. From there we bike towards Flamengo, but not before stopping for a coconut water with a famous local along the bay. There is nothing quite like sipping Coconut water with a view of the famous Sugar Loaf (Pão de Açucar) mountain. After feeling hydrated, we continue towards the center of the city where we learn how the independence of Brazil came to be. Biking through downtown Rio we learn Brazil’s history in chronological order riding through the many plazas and squares. We then ride to the traditional, bohemian neighborhood of Lapa respresnted by the aqueduct that leads us to the world famous Selarón Steps, the steps so colorfully designed by beautiful tile art. From there we finish the tour by cycling to Cinelândia where we have a well-earned snack of traditional Brazilian treats.
This Full Day City Bike Tour usually lasts about 6-7 hours and covers the most well-known and sought after neighborhoods of Rio de Janeiro. The route mentioned above may be modified by the guide, in order to have the best experience possible. We can’t wait to show you Rio the way it is meant to be seen, by bike!
